Do large breed dogs really need a different food?

Their nutrition isn't exotic, but the load on their body is. Big dogs carry more weight on every joint and eat far more of whatever is in the bowl, so ingredient quality compounds meal after meal. Ethelia Titans is built for exactly that: 70% fresh chicken and fish, 28% protein, and it's the only recipe in our range with added glucosamine and chondroitin.

He is not limping. Why should I worry about joints at all?

Because arthritis in dogs is usually bilateral. It hits both hips or both elbows at once, so the gait stays symmetrical and there is nothing obvious to spot. That is exactly what the Tennessee study found: 18 dogs with arthritis on X-ray, none of them diagnosed, none of their owners suspecting a thing. Is 28% protein too much for a large breed?

Yes. Every Ethelia recipe is FEDIAF-compliant and suitable for puppies as well as adults. Titans is designed for large-breed adults, and big breeds mature late; many are only fully grown at 18 to 24 months, so time the switch with your vet.
